Chest and Movie Location Guide
There are 6 locations throughout the island of The Witness that contain a coded message, locked in a chest, behind a puzzle door. The information contained within each of these chests allows the player to view extended video sequences, similar to the audio logs, in a movie theater located underneath the windmill in the “Town” section of the island.
To avoid giving away the answers for those interested in discovering the locations of the chests themselves, all vital content on this page is hidden behind a spoiler-button. Click the button at each section to reveal screenshots and information.

The Movie Theater
Head into town until you spot the tall, inoperable windmill. Complete the puzzle on its door to gain entrance to the movie theater.
After entering the windmill, head deep underground until you arrive at another locked doorway. You can catch a glimpse of the theater beyond through the glass window next to this locked door. Complete the puzzle to gain access to the theater.
After acquiring the secret from any chest, enter its information into the movie-selector puzzle to being viewing a short movie.
As you watch these movies, consider their purpose in the game. Why did Jonathan Blow choose these movies to show the player? What connections or significance might these films portray in understanding the puzzles and nature of the island?
